Primary Purpose

The AVP, Communications will be a catalyst for communications excellence and innovation throughout University Relations and across campus.   With extensive internal and external communications accountabilities, the AVP, Communications will seize opportunities to integrate communications and achieve synergies across communications programs and stakeholder groups.  The AVP, Communications will support and leverage the strengths of colleagues in other areas from across the University to achieve our overall strategic objectives.   

 

The AVP, Communications will lead and co-ordinate the development and delivery of primary communications vehicles and messaging to internal and external stakeholders.  The AVP, Communications will ensure the University develops compelling and timely communication materials and responses to our critical audiences including faculty, staff and students, leadership, media, and others.

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, communicates regularly and professionally advises and consults with all senior leaders including the President, and with all employees in all groups and departments as the scope of work and projects indicate and dictate, to inform, influence, educate and collaborate and to promote and build the University’s profile.  Externally, this position will have significant senior contacts building critical relationships and developing important partnerships and must have the ability to represent the President and Vice-Presidents on internal and external committees.

Level of Responsibility:

The position is responsible and accountable for the overall results of the Communications function.

Decision-Making Authority:

Responsible and accountable for establishing the priorities for the department and addressing the changes to strategic business plans by consulting directly with the Vice-President, University Relations and the President as appropriate.
