Faculty of Environment Ecology Laboratory Coordinator

Primary Purpose

Responsible for coordinating lab activities and ensuring safety protocols are followed as related to ENV courses requiring field and laboratory support.

Key Accountabilities:

Position Requirements


Completion of a Masters degree in the field of Environmental Studies/sciences.


Proven experience working outdoors, in laboratory handling chemicals, and competent working and providing a safe environment for large groups of individuals. Experience in a supervisory position and able to manage groups within academic environment. Knowledge of marketing and outreach activities in a University environment an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; time management and project management skills; ability to interact with people in a tactful, professional and diplomatic way; demonstrated ability to attend to priorities and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously; proven accuracy and attention to detail; comprehensive planning skills and problem solving skills are essential to succeed in this position.



Advanced knowledge of field and laboratory processes related to flora, soils, water, fauna and associated identification skills; naturalized landscaping processes; proficient in creating and maintaining web page, blogs and social media; understanding of digital geographic data; certified in first aid; knowledgeable with UW Safety procedures, guidelines and policies; marketing and undergraduate recruitment strategies.

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, this position will contact several UW groups to obtain, clarify, and discuss information


Externally, the Lab Coordinator will communicate with the local community and beyond to exchange or provide simple information
