General Accountability
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Advancement Services, the Advancement Training Officer will facilitate learning opportunities for, and provide hands on training to advancement staff across campus. The incumbent will provide a wide range of training which will include orientation for new staff, introductory and on-going use of our systems, software, reports, donor records, policies, procedures, and a host of related services. The incumbent will take a leadership role in skills’ development for advancement staff in various roles and job levels.
Nature and Scope
The Advancement Training Officer works closely with other members of the Advancement Services team to development and deliver technology training for staff. This is done through a variety of methods including formal classroom training, end-user and technical professional orientations, web-based training, and other venues determined to be effective for meeting the skills development requirements for the database and other systems. The encumbent helps with ongoing, long-term improvement of employees’ skills, enabling them to fulfill their potential with the organization.

Statistical Data
- Provides training/retraining for 50+ employees in the Faculties and College advancement offices
- Provides orientation and training for approximately 50 central development staff
Specific Accountabilities
- Devise a training strategy and develop training and development programs based on the department’s and the individuals’ needs
- Formalize the on-boarding process for new staff (FTE’s, contract and students)
- Develop and conduct effective employee orientation sessions and arrange on the job training for new employees
- Provide documentation and training about what services are available (from the central ODAA and decentralized offices), how they are accessed, and the expected deliverables
- Maintain a library of resources, current policies & procedures, instructional guides, report documentation, orientation materials, etc. in a location accessible to employees
- Evaluate training and development programs to ensure the course meets its objectives
- Provide employee training one-on-one, in a classroom, computer lab, or through a training firm, Web-based learning, or self-guided instructional guides
- Produce training materials for in-house courses
- Perform needs assessments of the types of training required and determine the best means of delivering training
- Work with Organizational and Human Development to set up leadership or executive development programs for employees
- Help line managers to solve specific training problems either on a one to one basis or in groups
- Monitor and review the progress of trainees through questionnaires and discussions with Managers
- Facilitate feedback on training program’s success for continuous improvement
- Consult, amend and revise programs as necessary in order to adapt to changes occurring in the work environment and/or information systems
- Participate as a member of the Systems Users Group, Sharepoint Committee, and other internal groups to identify, develop and enhance training needs for end-users across the department
- Develop a process for sharing procedural updates, forms, tips and tricks, best practices, for clients across campus
- Assist employees with maintaining and improving their job skills
- Identify training and development needs within the department through job analysis, regular consultation with business managers , Human Resources and Centre for Extended Learning
