The Manager, Multimedia Design is responsible for producing a wide range of multimedia projects for the University and ensuring how the brand and visual identity is expressed in video and online. They are the lead contact for video productions, animations as well as support for web design. This position is responsible for continuous improvement of the University’s multimedia offerings that are made available across multiple platforms. This includes working collaboratively within MSC to ensure dynamic and effective multimedia content is produced and meets the university’s communication strategy and identity standards.
Video Production
Produce, direct, shoot, design and edit multiple video productions
Project manage productions through the entire process to signoff
Develop detailed quotes
Monitor budgets and timelines, and address any issues or challenges as they arise
Art direct multiple video styles from high-end productions to guerilla style videos
Maintain and review video equipment and studio
Expert knowledge as director of photography and as editor/producer
Supervise freelance videographers, audio technicians, writers, designers and talent
Develop engaging storylines, storyboards, and ultimately, professional productions that can function on multiple platforms (web, digital displays, DVD, etc.)
Collaborate with designers within CPA to produce dynamic motion graphic animations
Stay current with video editing software, video equipment, and video accessibility standards
Web Design/Multimedia
Support interactive online publications
Create graphics and website designs that can be used within the Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS)
Ensure accessibility guidelines are met
Respond to client needs by analyzing the client’s directives and discussing necessary changes in order to improve and implement the functionality and design of their projects
Collaboration and outreach
Develop positive relationships in all areas on campus and its’ primary stakeholders, both internal and external, and identify opportunities for internal collaboration and consultation with faculities, colleges and departments for online design
Identify opportunities for potential future projects
Consult on high profile video projects
Participate in committees as required
Carry on day-to-day relations and share knowledge with other multimedia developers/designers on campus, participating in a shared community of practice, or in a seminar setting
Research and recommend new multimedia sources and technologies, programs, and activities that coordinate with specific departmental goals and help to enhance existing programs with new media strategies
Continue to showcase the work developed by Creative Services
Quality control
Ensure excellence and consistency in the design of all video productions
Ensure Waterloo identity guidelines are met
Lead and guide clients in the development of strategic, effective multimedia materials
Ensure all accessibility guidelines are met for both video projects and web design
Research new technologies that will aid in future projects
Maintain video equipment, research and recommend new and innovative products for future productions
