Primary Purpose

Within the Marketing & Undergraduate Recruitment (M&UR) unit of the Registrar’s Office (RO), fills a key senior management position as an M&UR director accountable for the effective development and execution of strategic marketing and communications plans and an on-campus visits strategy for all RO units, ensuring the effective positioning of the university, appropriate research, high-quality strategic positioning and messaging, and the safeguarding of the uWaterloo reputation. Plays a crucial role in the successful achievement of institutional undergraduate enrolment management, retention, and revenue goals by ensuring that all RO audiences receive accurate and timely print and digital communications and by developing effective on-campus visits, which represent a highly influential factor in a student’s choice of university.

Key Accountabilities:

1.  Accountable for the effective direction of all aspects of RO print and digital communications and on-campus visits initiatives, including strategic planning, budgeting, quality control, and the management of the institutional profile and reputation 



2.  Collaborates, advises, consults, educates, and builds consensus



3.  Directs the acquisition of research results and institutional knowledge that inform and support communications and on-campus visits strategies



4.  Directs, motivates, and mentors staff

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, communicates with colleagues in a wide range of departments and groups and at all levels to oversee the successful execution and integration of a variety of communications and on-campus visits strategies; externally, accountable for effective communication with a wide variety of audiences to deal with, influence, and motivate others to achieve university goals.

Level of Responsibility:

As senior RO communications and on-campus visits strategist, accountable for establishing related RO strategies and priorities as well as for informing the direction of university-wide communications and on-campus visits initiatives that directly impact the achievement of enrolment management, retention, and revenue goals; expected to provide collaborative leadership and expertise and to bring innovative and high-quality approaches as well as new concepts and models to enrolment management communication and on-campus visits strategies and to link and integrate RO plans with those of other academic and academic support units.

Decision-Making Authority:

Continually makes decisions that have a significant impact on and consequences for the reputation of the university and the success of enrolment management, retention, and revenue objectives.

Physical and Sensory Demands:

Minimal demands typical of a position operating within an office environment; periods of extensive sitting and concentrated use of visual senses.

Working Environment:

Minimal exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of a position exposed to stress and pressure associated with senior-management-level responsibilities; intermittent work outside the normal operating hours of the institution and occasional travel.
