Primary Purpose

This position is accountable to the EMS/SDC Manager for the day to day operation of the Engineering Machine Shop (EMS) store. These store operations typically have a significant diversity in type and scale of stock and equipment stored. The Storekeeper plans and co-ordinates all inventory, procedural and related stores activities.The EMS store facility is a faculty-wide source for supplies, services and materials for all research and manufacturing needs. Duties include ordering, stocking, processing and maintaining inventory of materials of all kinds for EMS stock and at customer request. Also serves as primary point of contact for material sales to staff, faculty and students.

Position Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma required. Completion of some specialized  training  in the related field is preferred.

Experience:

Experience required in a machine shop setting including familiarity with tools and materials, fittings, hardware and all relevant supplies and equipment that would be found in a machine shop or manufacturing environment. Must be familiar with and comfortable using industrial scale machine tools such as table saw, radial arm saw and cut-off and band saws. Must be able to become certified in overhead crane use.

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internal contacts include Manager, Assistant Manager, Office Administrator, EMS technicians, lab technicians, Plant Operations staff, faculty members, students.

Level of Responsibility:

This position provides assistance to clients in the form of searching for the most appropriate vendor and ensuring best value with regards to the ordering of a specific product or service.

Decision-Making Authority:

Problems would be of the time management type; the position has multiple, competing priorities such as administration of material orders, serving walk-in OTC customers and providing material cutting service for both EMS staff and customers. Manager would be consulted if workload became extreme.
