General Accountability

The Senior Financial Analyst is accountable to the Manager, Investments and Insurance for detailed analysis and reporting of financial information, particularly in relation to the University’s endowment funds which number over 300, with principal in excess of $40m. The incumbent also provides accounting support to the Manager, Investments and Insurance and other areas in Finance throughout the year.

Nature and Scope

The Senior Financial Analyst must possess an excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices, especially those of the University, and must keep abreast of changing CICA guidelines as they pertain to University accounting.

To effectively report on and account for the endowment funds, the Senior Analyst must be well versed in the use of Oracle Financials including Oracle reporting tools and  must possess strong PC skills in Excel and Word.

Strong analytical skills are requisite to this position, and the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with other staff members and the general University community is critical. As the specialist of all aspects of the Endowment funds, the incumbent may be required to attend meetings of various groups of endowment holders from time to time.

A general understanding of investment policies and procedures is required as he assists with the reconciliation of investment statements and is involved in special projects related to these areas.
