Primary Purpose

Accountable to the Chair for human resources administration, financial oversight, and other administrative functions required to support the teaching and research missions of the Department. Accountable to the Faculty Executive Officer for management of facilities and equipment and health and safety responsibilities, which extend beyond the boundaries of the department.

Position Requirements


Bachelor's degree required in a discipline related to business administration or finance. Additional education or training in business and human resources administration preferred. Some educational background in Science or Mathematics  preferred.


Senior human resources management experience required including supervision of staff at various levels Proven ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations

Proven experience to integrate various elements - such as space, people, and finances - into a cohesive plan

Strong analytic and reporting skills

Experience in communications and ability to direct communications efforts

Strong financial acumen, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting experience over several years

Proven ability to design and implement new and changing administrative and financial processes Excellent human relation skills, in particular, ability to guide and develop staff and foster constructive team relationships

Proven leadership skills, including constructive relationships with individuals in academic posts Experience managing and reporting on major projects

Independent judgment in areas of time management, task prioritization and decision-making Proven ability to manage a large volume of work, conflicting priorities and deadlines Exceptional verbal and written communication ability



Intermediate experience with Outlook Express, Microsoft Word; advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, including features such as databases and pivot tables. Basic experience with Sharepoint and web content management software. Ability to use technological solutions to improve processes and communications.

Level of Responsibility:

The job is a Department-wide function that has a specialized function and has direct reports.  The responsibility includes providing mentoring and leadership to other senior staff members within the Department (in the technical and instructional areas), especially as it relates to strategic planning and human resource functions.
