Primary Purpose

As a member of the Davis Centre Library Information Services and Resources Department (ISR), the incumbent is responsible for providing information service to patrons, for scheduling the staffing of information service points, and for participating in the development and delivery of orientation and library instruction activities. The incumbent assists liaison librarians with information resource management. The incumbent also participates in the cooperative efforts of the department such as committee work and special projects.

 

Some duties of this position support both the Davis and Porter ISR departments, and can be library-wide at times.

Key Accountabilities:

1.  As a Library Associate in an Information Services and Resources department, the incumbent:

 

 

2.  Serves as the departmental information manager and as department co-administrator of software systems/applications used by the department:

 

 

3.  Provides information services and research assistance:

 

 

4.  Provides library instructional support to Librarians within the Department and through general Library Instruction efforts:

 

 

5.  Supports Librarians’ and Department Heads’ information resources management activities:

 

 

6.  Assists with the development, design and delivery of ISR promotional strategies and materials to raise awareness of Library services, resources and staff expertise.  This is done in consultation others including ISR librarians, department head(s), Circulation staff members, and the Library’s Communication and Outreach teams:

Nature and Scope

Interpersonal Skills:

Internally, communicates with all departmental and information services delivery staff. Works with Digital Initiatives (DI) and Library Technology and Facility Services (LTFS) to resolve problems with software and web-based tools and technologies being used to support the work of the department. Works with Collection Development, Cataloguing and Circulation staff on activities related to collection lifecycle management.  Externally, this position has significant contact with students, faculty and staff through the provision of high quality customer service.

Level of Responsibility:

This position works with minimal supervision and has no direct reports. This person is responsible for the scheduling and staffing of physical service points and online information services. The position provides assistance and training to co-workers in the use of web-based collaboration tools used in the department. This person is also responsible for AODA compliance in their activities related online instruction and support, and promotion.

Decision-Making Authority:

Responsible for problem-solving daily issues as related to responsibilities. Works with manager and others to solve more complex problems.
