Administrative Coordinator, Centre for Mental Health   Research and Clinical Academic Division

General Accountability

The Administrative Coordinator reports jointly to the Administrative Officer, the Clinical Division Head and the Centre for Mental Health Research Director and facilitates the effective and efficient day to day operation of the Centre for Mental Health Research (the Centre) and the Clinical division in all administrative and most financial matters. This position is one of two staff positions in the Centre and Clinical division.


Nature and Scope

This role is administratively complex and brings together research, coursework and therapy training, following compliance with North American professional standards for psychological services and academic programs and also UW policies and procedures. Provide administrative support for the Clinical division and the therapy training of Ph.D. graduate students operated from the Centre for Mental Health Research. The incumbent is the central administrative resource for the Clinical Division’s faculty and students and works in partnership with the Division Head and Director of the Centre. This person needs to be able to think and act quickly, making decisions with authority, integrity and sensitivity. Responsibilities include the guidance of administrative policies and procedures following ethical standards of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Canadian and American Psychological Association guidelines, as well as those of the University of Waterloo and the management of client services for the Centre. This person needs to be technically competent, with knowledge in a variety of areas and the ability to learn very quickly. Budget forecasting and management is also a very important component of this position. The client services environment is expected to expand during the next three to five years as the modes of treatment increase and additional students become involved in therapy training through on-site practica and internship consortia. The Administrative Coordinator ensures that skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate administrative support continues at a high caliber.

The Centre offers psychological services for children, adolescents and adults in the tri-city area, usually treating about 150 clients per year. The Centre provides assessment and treatment to clients, usually using Cognitive Behaviourial Therapy. Each of our client’s treatment programs can extend from three months to a year or more.
