Budget Assistant

General Accountability

The Budget Assistant is accountable to the Manager, Client Services for updating budget position data in E-Budgets and updating salary encumbrance data and salary expenditure data in the Salary Management System (SMS).   The incumbent also maintains user accounts in the Oracle Government Financials (OGF) General Ledger.

Nature and Scope

The Budget Assistant must possess a good understanding of the financial business of the University and a good understanding of financial concepts including actuals, budgets and encumbrances.  The incumbent must have the ability to assess user needs and respond as required, i.e. budget setup, account setup, or advice on how to record financial data.

A high degree of accuracy and confidentiality is required in maintaining salary and budget information.  The Budget Assistant must meet deadlines and still maintain an exceptional degree of accuracy.  The incumbent must establish a close working relationship with Human Resources supporting budget related position management in the Human Resources Management System (HRMS).  He/she will create, update and disable segment values and accounting flexfields in the General Ledger (GL).  The Budget Assistant will assist both academic and academic support departments with their budgeting and accounting related problems.  The incumbent must have the ability to cross train with other functional areas within Finance.
